I'm average...sigh

Hello everyone,

I have recently been reviewed at Frog My Blog, and I don't think I ended up with too many wounds as a result. Unfortunately, there weren't too many comments pertaining to my writing which was what I was hoping for. The reviewer alluded to the fact that she hadn't read the entire front page. Overall, the critique ended up being a reflection of catblogging.

I suppose I have some work to do.

If you would like to read the review, click here.

you, Zues, are a brave cat, submitting your blog for review. I couldn't take the pressure. :)

I think you are very well-written, and I'd give you five stars!

It's weird to base a review on a Thursday Thirteen, but oh well.

Had this frog looked at your Amazing Zeus adventures, your solid advice on how to pick up chicks (you picked me up, after all), or even smelled your Axe...well, there might have been a few more bug ratings thrown your way.

Hmmmm...you are definitely not average. I don't keep average tomcats in my stable!

Zeus,

You are NOT average! We love your blog. Think of it like movie reviewers and people that buy tickets to movies. Some movies get panned but sell tons of tickets. You have the people behind you! (Ok, maybe that is dogs and cats, but you know what we mean.)

You are brave to submit your blog but you could have just asked us, your fans. WE know best.

Zeus, your blog is always one we are thrilled to read, you are a very clever blogger. I think it says a lot that out of all of the cat blogs yours was chosen.

Keep on blogging Zeus, we can only hope to keep up with your whit!

Zeus, your blog is great the way it is!

It isn't in the "norm" category, so not everyone will get it... well, at least not right away ;)

But, then again, who out there is the "norm" poster-child ;)

Don't change a thing :)

P.S. Me agree with Kukka-Maria... a Thr-13 isn't the best thing to do a review on... me things the review person didn't spend enough time on your whole site to get a feel for what you did. Any reviwer should take a look at least one weeks worth of content.

The frogs don't get it. IN fact I fink that they are lost in the fog frogs.

Aside from the frog review,I think they were unfair in their characterization of your blog. I also think that they were unfair to catblogging in general.

One the first note, your blog is exemplary. It is well written, funny, inventive and thought-provoking. I don't think this frog looked at all the wide ranging topics you've covered. To say that it must be hard for a cat to come up with 13 things is very speciest. *ICKY frogs!

They are also unfair to depict cat bloggers as inferior bloggers simply because we chose to have fun with our blogs being from the view of our cats. That again speaks to their inablity to see beyond writing as a frog.

I don't know how you can 'review' a blog based on one entry. Goodness...the least they could have done was read a week's worth of entries if not a month.

OK, now I'm going to go send Abby over to eat a frog.

So I guess it's OK for a "frog" to read one entry and pass judgement on your entire blog?

Hold your head high, Zeus! You've done wonderful work and have nothing to be ashamed of. Lots of us read you daily and enjoy your postings.

If you want to get a group of guys together to finish off this self proclaimed "reviewer", Max & I are with you 100%!

Just for clarification, I did read more than the first page. I dug around in the archives quite a bit. Probably about 30-45 minutes.

Brave Brave Kitty. I know I am too thin skinned to get a review, and Miss Kittie just thinks a laptop is a heater.

Keep being you furball

Obviously they are speciest. They think cats can't come up with 13 things! As if we couldn't count. And how could it get old posting as if we were cats?! I mean, after all we ARE and we have plenty of stuff to do--rule the world, study humans, flirt with handsome men, talk about the Amazing Race and other television shows that are good to snooze through... I mean what would you talk about as a human?

Edsel/The Pooch said...

Zeus, your blog is very, very good. if you are silly enough to listen to a frog then you must have lost your mind! we all love your blog - we poodins - and who else is it for????

I love it. You and Kukka are some of the funniest bloggers around, I can always count on you for a well-written, hilarious article ;). Who cares what a frog likes anyway, don't cats eat them? ;)

I would have given you a 5!!! I love your blog!!! You always keep me entertained! Keep up the good work!

We think that frog does not know a tadpole from a cane toad!
Meowmie says we are having some french dish for dinner. It tastes like chicken, but doesn't look like any chicken we've ever seen.

Bah...humans don't know a good thing when they see it. I love your blog and my opinion is the only one that matters.

Thanks everyone for the kind sentiments. Ms. Ribbit did a huge service for me in reviewing this blog, and I really have thanked her (twice now!) for having done so. It's important to always get ideas from a different perspective, and I'm glad she could be open to me with her thoughts.

I can only hope to do better work now. One of my biggest goals for this blog was to increase readership beyond the feline blogosphere. Look where we are now! We have fellow homo sapiens and canines coming over to visit and comment on a regular basis! And not just on my blog, but on others as well! To me, that is the sign of "crossing over", and that is highly important as a writer/blogger.

That is what Ms. Ribbit was trying to convey - that this blog is a specialized project that may not appeal to every reader out there. That much is true as is demonstrated by our friend, Simon! However, that means that a unique challenge is presented, and it is one, that in time, I hope I meet.

That frog does not know what they are talking about. Your blog is clearly a 5 out of 5. It did not sound as if they had stuck around your blog long enough to read all that good stuff like The Amazing Zeus!
All frogs are evil, I am having a lot of frog trouble at the moment...see story on my blog.

What did you expect from a frog? He may not think cats are good at this but we are. We have fun with our lives and sharing with our buddies.

Zeus, my man, I don't put much stock in the opinions of either humans or frogs.

Hi Zeus, I left froggy a comment to tell him what us dogs think about that!

Take a look and see if it's good enough to pounce on or roll in. (Do you cats roll in stuff, 'cause you should try it if you don't.)

Over and out,

It seems questionable whether the reviewer actually read your blog, which seems like a basic ingredient for a review ...

But I am with you on trying to "cross over," so to speak. That is why I lead an interfaith, interspecies ministry. We cast a wide net. It looks like you're doing a good job of that.

Reality is soooooo important. After all, look at all the factual things about which I write!

What do you mean Brad Pitt has never heard of me!? BITE YOUR EVER-LOVING TONGUE!

'It’s quite another thing when you’re taking on a roll of a pet and looking in on your own (human) life through the eyes of that pet - it’s like acting in a play, where you’re putting yourself aside and “becoming” or portraying a completely different character who has experiences different from your own.

The change in perspective can be cute, entertaining and witty when done as a post…but not as a whole blog. Because it isn’t real - and reality is one of the most attractive (and basic) elements of blogging.

I have a hard time keeping interest in a blog in which I know the writer is “fake.” ' Lily Pad

Fake?
Have you ever read a book? Watched a movie?
Do you have dreams, wishes, hopes?
Or is that also not interesting, considering it is not reality?

Zeus is not fake. Not to me anyway...I read his stories, and I enjoy them. Is that not the most important thing? To touch people through your blog? What does it matter if the writing has been done by cats, frogs, dogs, humans or slugs?

I'm sorry if I sound a bit angry...it's late...I'm not writing in my native language, so I might not use all the politically correct words...but really;
if there is anything that pisses me off it's people without imagination. They are the most boring, uninteresting people alive.

Keep doing your thing Zeus, we love you for it.

Oh, what does a frog know anyway? Felines have been and always will be superior to them. I love your blog, and judging from how many comments you get, a lot of others do to!

You're 5 ladybugs in my book!

For what it's worth I just gave the frog my 2 cents worth. Glad to see it hasn't let you down and that your blog is up to it's usual excellent standard.
