How smart is your cat?

After finding out how smart certain dogs were, some of my readers were upset by the lack of information pertaining to feline intelligence. Some wondered if there was even an IQ test for us, and to be honest, I had not held on to hope. However, after some investigative work, I am pleasantly surprised to let you know that you have some choices when it comes to testing your cat's intellectual capacity!

1. Wuzzle.org has a paper and pencil cat IQ test that you can take. I am a bit doubtful as to the validity of this test as it only has eight questions. Surely, there's more to life than eight measley questions.

2. This IQ test involves a hoop and some treats. I'm curious what makes these scientists think that my girth is going to fit through a hoop. Granted, I have been dieting, but I'm not certain I even want to jump through a hoop for my human pet. Should that be held against me?

3. The Cat I.Q. Test by Melissa Miller has tremendous potential to be worthwhile. I might just purchase this book for my human pet as a gift for Christmas. Well, truth be told, it's more for me than it is for her, but she won't even recognize the hidden motive.

Tests have to be used many times before they can be proven to be reliable and valid so why not help out the cause? Try some of these tests, and feel free to come by and share your results with us here!

I'd imagine the first one, with only 8 questions, is probably the best indicator of intelligence.

I mean, if I can use a paper and pencil to complete the test, I've got to be pretty advanced!

I agree with Kukka Maria. Of course, I don't think there's anything that the humans know that can actually measure intelligence as we are so superior to them...

Regarding #2, why should Mom run around looking for a 24" hoop! Since I know where the treats are, if I want some, I'll open the bag and help myself! A diginified cat would never jump through a hoop!!!

I agree with Kukka & Chey!

By the way, we are ALL "Bright" with Latte as the most intelligent. Interesting.

The one from wuzzle.org is funny. I liked the questions, speshully the one where I answered that I shouted obsenities at bikers when in the car. I fink I'm a genius. -Miles

I agree with Kukka, the first test is short and to the point. I have a furry good IQ. We are smart, case closed.

Mom has a book for testing cat IQ but I just ignore her. I don't need to take a test to know how intelligent I am!

The test involving a hoop and treats sounds just dumb. That sounds more like a dog test to me. Kitties generally know where the treats are kept and what they need to do to get one or six.

I'm just "bright" according to that Wuzzle test, so there must be some mistake!

Thanks for scoping out the scene for us!

I think I'm going to have to try these out (on my cats). I'll let you know how not-smart they are! LOL!

Long ago, Hobby Lobby had a kit that claimed to be an IQ test fur cats. But Mom said it was too expensive an didn't buy it.

I believe our intelligence is best shown by the LACK of IQ tests. Since we know we're quite intelligent, we don't need a test to prove it.

Humans don't even understand how the feline mind works, yet they claim to have devised tests of our intelligence? Pfeh.

Zeus, you don't need any test. We all know you're the smartest cat around.
