Oh dear, look at that blood spurting!! Do you keep styptic powder handy? Stops the bleeding right away. Mom uses it for the piggies, they get antsy when she clips their nails and sometimes gets down too far.
Yikes! Maybe you need a scratching post or something?

We really sympathize, Ares! Our mom is not very good at nail-clipping either. Don't tell anyone, but we would rather have the vet do it. She does a better job!
Awe! Our mom hates doing Dixie Dog's nails. She has huge labrador black nails and they are difficult and the quick is not visible. Mom uses the dremel instead of clippers! Dixie doesn't cooperate very well, so that makes it worse.
Poor Ares! Mum knows you can't see the blood vessels in black nails and it is easy to take them back too far. We are lucky, we wear our nails down climbing trees and scratching on wood, so we have never had our nails clipped.
Mom sez dat clipping black doggy claws is hard. She used to use da rule dat yoo only clipped halfway up da curved part. She still gots blood once in awhile...cornstarch is good for stopping it.
