hey, in answer to your question, here in the Cincinnati, OH and surrounding Northern suburbs where we live, dogs have been stolen right from yards. It has been going on since last fall (in the paper they said many of these dogs were being given, or sold, as Christmas gifts) and the newspaper occasionally will put reminder articles about keeping watch over your dog.
I think those people stealing dogs should be beaten by the poor stolen animal's actual family members and then tied up under rows of kitty litterboxes to be, well...mommy is "in the family way" so we'll leave that to your imagination....
