If you do not know what "Thesis of Distinction" refers to, it means...
The award Thesis of Distinction is granted for an exceptionally good or original thesis, without consideration of the student's record in other work. The chair of the major department will appoint a committee of at least two members (including the thesis advisor) to read the thesis, and will recommend to the Dean the granting of this award where this seems appropriate. Such theses will be retained in the department. The award is noted on the transcript.
In the human pet's case, she is one of five graduating masters' students (from all possible majors) to win the award. It also means that the university will help her have the manuscript published in a professional journal, and a copy of her thesis will be kept in the university library so other students can use her research for their papers.
The neighborhood is still reeling from the news, and believe me, the celebrations went on long into the night! What a terrific end to such a long journey!

It's us again, Zeus. We're responding to the
question you left on our blog. Tatami mats are what the Japanese use for floor coverings. They are traditionally made of rice straw and each one measures around 3 feet by six. In fact, the Japanese measure room sizes by the number of tatami mats! Small is 4 and a half, medium-size is 6 etc... They are usual just over two inches thick and have a little give to them, so they are comfortable to sit on and sleep on.
